Danny Palmer's iTunes Celebrity Playlist

DVNO Justice
Justice are by far one of my all time, all time favorite bands without a doubt. I can say, without compromise, that they are probably one of strongest up and coming artists of our generation. While they may not be as mainstream (well, now more so than before thanks to their VMA nomination for D.A.N.C.E.) this is a band that everyone needs to have in their lives. The beats that they lay down in their tracks along with the way that they mix samples makes for more than music, it's an experience. Justice is just one of those bands that make me feel young and utterly invincible. This just makes me want to dance my life away.

Let's Make Love And Listen To Death From Above Cansei De Ser Sexy
What is there even to say about Cansei De Ser Sexy aside that everyone should have a little CSS in their lives for the better? This song is a favorite and a must have on any mix that I make before gong out for the night. it's one of those few staples songs that you'll find on a Danny Palmer mix-- hey, it's either that or George Michael's Faith, guys. Hm. Feel lucky that isn't on here, right? Anyway, I totally love and respect anyone who can perform on stage in a rainbow sequined jumpsuit, but that's just the gay man in me? Who knows?

Yummy Gwen Stefani (ft Pharrell)
Oh Ms. Stefani, could you be any more fierce? I would love to say no but I have a feeling that she's more than capable of it. I've followed her since No Doubt and it amazes me the way that she has not only become so versatile with her her now iconic style but also the music that she produces and her latest album (The Sweet Escape) is just a true testament to that. Nearly every song gets a reaction out of me which is exactly what every artist aspires to do. Also, congrats to her and her family and their baby on the way! PS; Gwen, if you're reading this, please send me some new L.A.M.B. merch, lady? I adore you!

The Party Justice (ft. Uffie)
So, I've already said my piece about Justice (STILL freaking amazing!) so now I feel the need to address the even lesser known artist who they've collaborated with on this track; Uffie. Man, this little lady has sass and I am loving it. Like, really now, come on. Her songs are able to keep it real and especially this track in particular. This is one of those songs that was able to perfectly capture a pivotal point of my life and every time I hear it it brings me back to late nights, parties, cheap drinks, and waltzing right into a club while half naked people wait outside in a way long line while I party it up inside.

Electricscape The Strokes
The strokes are just one of those bands that are like a fine wine-- they just get better and better with age. Since their first album ( Is This It?) I knew I was listening to something really special and thus far they have delivered the same feeling every single time. The bands are one of those raw, flawless bands that you have a problem not liking. There is so much talent here that both a trained and amateur ear alike can appreciate, from the distinct vocals to the melodic guitars, it just is something that I really admire about them. Great stuff and definitely a favorite band. This is another one of those infinite songs for me.

Wishbone Architecture In Helsinki
Sometimes you come across one of those really just cute bands. There is no other word to describe the music that Architecture in Helsinki produce except maybe unique or whimsical. The first time that I heard this band from down under (Melbourne, Australia) i couldn't help but just laugh. It;s really refreshing to hear a band that is not only musically inclined but also able to produce such a feeling from me. Really, listening to this band is just a treat for me which is probably why I try not to over due it as to lose the general mystique.

Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Cursee Of Montreal
For the longest time I thought this song was called 'Chemicals' but apparently I was wrong. It's not that I mind or that I really care either because that's not important seeing as what is important here is that this song is one of those that just boggle my mind in all the right kind of ways. As most of Ugly Duckling fans are aware, I'm one for making all the right decisions that will help as opposed to harm my life, my body, and my spirit. However, if dropping acid or some other hard narcotic and listening to this song on repeat would bring me some sort of enlightenment like I feel it could, I probably would.

Underwater (You and Me) Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
This is one of those cute bands that I enjoy more than I perhaps should. The combination of the obscure vocals as well as the playful melodies of the guitar and happy procession that make up Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are probably what make it so appealing. If you want irony this is the band for you-- the claps are amazing! I seriously love clapping in songs and always have for some reason? Hm. This band generally requires an acquired taste and is not for everyone but I'd definitely urge you all to check them out. This is from the second album but as a whole the first is a runaway favorite.

This Charming Man Death Cab For Cutie
Now anyone who knows me, whether you are my brother, my best friend (and fellow Smiths fanboy), or even just through the band, you are aware how I would live and die for Morrissey-- I would do anything for the an and he s my 'get out of jail free car' (a few of you will know what I mean). So, to find a Smiths cover by Death Cab For Cutie who s one of the most influential and promising bands since the late 90's was just great for me. Usually I don't support covers of great bands but this is an exception to that rule. Ben Gibbard may not have that same smooth voice as Moz but he does the song justice and brings it an all new sound. What a great track!

The City''s Summer The Albatross Is Dead
Well, I'm not sure if this name drop was intentional or not but somehow The Albatross Is Dead found it's way to this playlist. Really, it doesn't matter to me whether or not I am friendly with these guys because this song just is one of these that I find irresistible to not tap my toes along to or sing along with. Ian's voice is always a favorite of mine and in this song the rhythm stands out especially to me; I may be a guitarist by trade but a good drum and bass section always stands out to me. In short-- amazing song, amazing band. Check them out at www.myspace.com/thealbatrossisdead and I guarantee you will be pleased.

O! Valencia The Decemberists
The Decemberists are a band that I can not and will never be able to get enough of, especially this track. It just happens to be one of those that I sing at the top of my lungs with a smile on my face with so emotion it doesn't matter if I can't carry a tune like Colin Meloy because it's so far embedded inside of me that I can't contain it. The Decemberists make me slightly speechless and I wish I could say more but really I think this is a track that I'll just let speak for itself instead.

I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself The White Stripes
Does anyone remember this White Stripes video? I bet just after a strum of the first few chords and Jack White's tortured call of 'I just don't know what to do with myself' that you'll know what I'm talking about. Now, the female persuasion may not be my thing but not even I cannot can resist Miss. Kate Moss spinning around that poll like it's no one's business. I'm sorry but, geez, it's hot and I won't attempt to deny that fact. The song itself is great and the White Stripes simplistic style is as appealing as ever especially those distinctly classic rock 'n' roll infused chorus'.

Where The White Boys Dance Bombardier
When you think of the name Bolster I bet you generally think of my good friend Bailey Bolster but here's three cheers for the lesser known Keiran Bolster and his band Bombadier. Here's a sample that I exclusively received from the Bolster's themselves, a cover of the song ' Where The White Boy's Dance,' and let me tell you-- I approve. There's something about Keiran's quivering voice that's so sad and lethargic (especially the line 'I've seen it in his eyes and on his face') accompanied by the backing instrumentals that reminds me of that great period of time in the 1980's called New Wave. This is refreshing and just amazing. Everyone, please, please, please go out and support Keiran! I guarantee you that you'll be hearing about him a lot more very soon.

Boys Keep Swinging David Bowie
What does one even say about Bowie? Honestly, what can I say aside from this man is potentially one of the largest influences in my early life and this song in particular. I remember dancing around to this song with Marc as a kid and belting it out and strutting myself like Mr. David Bowie himself. Maybe that should have been a precursor to my mother of just what kind of man I would grow up to be, bless her, haha. This song is a classic just like the man himself and nearly as flamboyant. Next halloween expect Ziggy Stardust to make an appearance for sure this time-- that's all I really need to say about that.

Psycho Killer Talking Heads
As of late I've been subjected to a lot more classic rock than I ever had been before and originally subjected out have been a far more fitting of a word than it is now. The fact is, it's growing on me whether or not I want it to or not. Now, the Talking Heads may not exactly fit into the box that is the classic rock genre but more than likely it's the closest I will ever get to voluntarily listening to it. I know the person out there who is responsible for this (and you know who you are) s probably smirking up a storm behind the safety of their computer screen. Keep smirking, you.

These Things Take Time The Smiths
I don't think that I could make a mix of any sort without having either Morrissey or the Smiths or even both. Since the beginning of my adolescence Moz and his music has been a pivotal part of my life and a number of songs could define me so perfectly. While other kids were becoming obsessed with the next big thing I was stuck in 1986, praying to God I would need glasses too so I could wear those thick framed monstrosities and stye m hair in that perfect pomp; only one of those things was achieved for last year when I became a mini-moz. I am such a shameless fanboy. This song in particular contains one of my all time, all time favorite lyrics-- 'Oh, the alcoholic afternoons/ When we sat in your room/They meant more to me/Than any, than any living thing on earth'-- and there's just something so ordinary but romantic about that statement that makes it absolutely beautiful to me.
